With twelve dogs I've given up on the carpet and am planning to rip it all out. So, when I feed an item that they work on for a day or more as long as they keep it off the furniture they get to keep it. Actually, if they get a spot of carpet bloody while they're eating that spot ends up being cleaner after they're done than before they started.
